Suicideboys are a rap duo straight outta New Orleans, made up of cousins, Ruby Da Cherry and Scrim. They linked up in 2014 after both dealing with some heavy mental stuff and fed up with life as it was. Their come up wasn’t through the usual industry grind… they built their following up from things like SoundCloud by dropping raw, dark tracks that hit hard with fans going through tough times.
Their music is straight up unfiltered and full of themes like depression, drug addiction, death and suicide. They are not shy about speaking about their demons, that honesty is what connects them to their fans. Tracks like “Paris”, “Kill Yourself” and “2nd Hand” put them on the underground map and from there if just snowballed. They have always kept it DIY by producing, mixing and mastering their own stuff under their own label, G59 Records. The Greyscale vibe is their signature, being bleak, gritty and unapologetically real.
Ruby Da Cherry brings more of a punk rock vibe with his screaming flows and wild energy, while Scrim leans into the smooth, almost southern style delivery. They have never really cared about fame or being the number one hit on the radio, for them, it has always been about creating a safe space for people that feel like outcasts, the people living in the shadows. Their music lingo is a mix of rap influenced underground slang and their own twisted takes. You’ll hear them talk about “Grey59 til the Grave” or “Fuck the Population” which is their clothing brand, and they will also drop a “Kill Yourself part whatever” track like it is just another Tuesday.
They have been open about their mental health and their struggle to get clean, using music as a therapy, and even as they have blown up, they have stuck to their roots. No flashy chains or industry puppetry, just two dudes from NOLA making haunting, cathartic art for the lost, the broken and the ones trying to feel something. You don’t want to miss out so go hit that “Buy Tickets Now” button and get ready to feel.
