Kid Rock’s music roots and early influence was rap music. At age 11, he joined a local breakdance crew and taught himself to man and spin the turntable. In his teens, he found regular gigs at basement parties. Club goers found him amazing as ‘that white kid that rock’, hence he adapted the monicker ‘Kid Rock’. He paid his dues so to speak, and worked his way up, ’til his music and talent was discovered and got signed to a label. From rap, hip-hop, with a mix of rock, his music eventually evolved and turned to an amalgam of sounds, infused with elements of country, blues, and heavy metal. His most commercially successful 1998 studio album Devil Without a Cause, which sold 13 million albums worldwide. He has been nominated five times in the prestigious Grammy Awards, and has sold over 27 million albums worldwide.
