San Francisco Orchestra has been mesmerizing the listeners since it took shape in 1911. Under the music director Michael Tilson Thomas –who held the position since September 1995 – SFS established the ultimate benchmark for musical brilliance. The group have sustained being a forerunner among American orchestras through national and international tours as well as award-winning recordings. The album Symphony and Metallica (S&M) was their live album with the heavy metal band, Metallica which was recorded on April 1999. It marked another success for the group as the album peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and earned 5 times platinum status. The 8th track, “No Leaf Clover” hang around the no. 1 position on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for seven consecutive weeks. In 2010, the SFS produced its Mahler symphony cycle, which spawned seven Grammy Awards including Best Choral Performance for Symphony No. 8 and Adagio from Symphony No. 10.
