What to expect
Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Shoreline Amphitheatre is in an excellent location for an outdoor venue. For this reason, it operates year-round and in varying weather conditions. In other words, shows continue come rain or shine. Some extreme conditions may mean events are canceled – follow the venue’s social media channels for updates in this case.
Residents advise visitors to dress for all conditions. Local legend says that no matter how hot the weather is during the day, it will be cold at night. In particular, the breeze coming in off the bay can make for chilly conditions. So, even if it’s been a warm day, you might find a jacket useful after dark.
Upon arrival, general admission tickets can sometimes experience lengthy lines to pass security. Those with fast passes are generally inside within minutes. For this reason, it’s strongly recommended to either purchase fast passes or allow plenty of time to arrive, park, and enter the venue.
It’s also a good idea to keep your mobile devices charged before arrival. The venue uses mobile ticketing only. If you have any difficulty using your phone as your ticket, please contact the box office to arrange an alternative.
Once inside, there are large high-definition screens that show the acts close up. Combined with the excellent sound system, fans get a great experience no matter where they sit. However, it’s a good idea to arrive early if you want to secure a central or close-up spot on the lawn. Events generally end by 11 p.m. due to a noise curfew.
Events Experience
Even though the Shoreline Amphitheatre is creeping up to its 40th birthday and not too far from turning 50, it doesn’t seem like a venue that has been around for almost half a century when you step inside. You’ll be greeted by its trademark tent canopy and instantly know you’re in for a one-of-a-kind music experience.
Despite being partially covered, the amphitheater feels like an outdoor venue through and through. It’ll leave you exposed to the elements unless you snag a seat right up near the stage, but you won’t mind this one bit since Mountain View, CA, has a warm, pleasant climate throughout most of the year.
You’ll also be pleasantly surprised to see how amazing the Shoreline Amphitheatre’s sound system is despite the open-air design of the venue. It’s capable of producing high-definition sound, and the venue can get very loud at times — so loud that it has reportedly received more than 10,000 noise complaints throughout its illustrious history.
Another thing you’re sure to love is all the space the amphitheater provides. Whether sitting in a roomy reserved seat or hanging out in the spacious general admission lawn during a show, you won’t ever feel like you’re sitting on top of other guests, even when you’re attending a sold-out concert.
And don’t worry: You’ll forget that the ground you’re standing on at the Shoreline Amphitheatre used to be filled to the brim with trash. Any signs that this site once served as a landfill are long gone.
A trip to this well-designed outdoor amphitheater should be at the top of every music fan’s bucket list.
