The Doobie Brothers at Shoreline Amphitheatre

With prolific years of touring and recording best-selling studio albums throughout their career, The Doobie Brothers are undoubtedly one of the most successful rock bands that come out in the early 70s. As trailblazers, they were able to experiment with their sound and crafted songs that were not exclusively boxed to a specific genre. They originally started with a mainstream rock and roll sound but leaned into the blue-eyed soul when their lead singer Tom Johnston left the band and was replaced by Michael McDonald. McDonald was with the group until they split up in 1982; Johnston returned when they reformed a few years later. Since then, the group has been very visible in the music industry. From the 90s until the early 2020s, the band has been active in recording and touring, with McDonald occasionally joining the band as a guest vocalist.

The band boasts of its achievement of producing a total of 15 studio albums throughout their career. These 15 best-selling albums included 6 Top 10 appearances on the Billboard 200 album chart, including 1978's "Minute by Minute," which reached number one for five weeks and won the band a Grammy for "Best Pop Vocal Performance" by a Duo or Group, while the single "What A Fool Believes" from the album won three Grammys itself.

In 2020, the band was among the six groups who were inducted into the 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The induction included living members Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, Michael McDonald, John McFee, Tiran Porter, John Hartman, and Jeff Baxter. At the same time, drummer & vocalist Keith Knudsen and drummer Michael Hossack would be inducted posthumously.

Today, The Doobie Brothers are embarking on their golden anniversary tour. The tour will feature original members of the band from its 1970 lineup, and fans can expect to hear the massive hits of the band, which include "Listen to the Music," "Black Water," "China Grove," "What a Fool Believes," "Long Train Runnin'," and many more. They will stop at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, this Tuesday, September 27.
